Workshop IV. Stormwater Projects with Jane Pierce of DEP

Jane has charge of what are called 319 Grants. In Massachusetts, this involves two million dollars EPA federal money.

My reason for attending this workshop was to find out if we could get 319 money to do something in conjunction with Mass Highway about the Rte 16  storm water problem.

Jane put the Clean Water Tool Kit on the screen and using Lake Nipmuc as a demonstration example, she showed us how to answer the question.

It turned out that the answer is no. The grants are only to fund non-point source pollution.(Pollution detected in a water source that come from a wide range of sources. Rte 16 is point source.(Pollutants coming from an originating point like a pipe with a specific point of discharge.) I was told it is Mass Highway’s problem.

However, if there is anything we need to do that qualifies for a grant, this CD tells us exactly how to do it.
