Meeting Minutes Lake Nipmuc Association November 1, 2007 Town Hall, Mendon
· Meeting started at 7pm.
· Joan Caldarella moderated the meeting and acted as temporary President of the Association until another person could be elected into office.
· Ms. Caldarella was the key figure in implementing an Association for Lake Nipmuc and bringing people together to set up the organization. Assisting Ms. Caldarella were Ileen Matthews and Kathy Larsson who sent out notification of the meeting to local residents.
The Agenda was as follows:
1. Bylaws for Association were voted upon and approved. None opposed.
2. Nomination and election of officers – the following persons were nominated and voted in to office:
President Ted King Vice President Laura Tosches Secretary Michelle Walsh Treasurer Ileen Matthews
3. Committees formed:
Stormwater – This committee is responsible for finding solutions to stormwater runoff conditions
Members: Shirley Smith, Fred Lapham, Karen Belkin
Lake Monitoring – This committee is responsible for water quality issues Members: Bob and Laura Klein, Chuck Lewis
Geese – This committee is responsible for monitoring geese activity and their impact Members: Damon Tinio, Joan Caldarella
Public Education – This committee is responsible for education and outreach to the general public Members: Kathy Victor
Website – This committee is responsible for maintaining the Association’s website Members: Ted King
Invasive Plant Life – This committee is responsible for monitoring invasive species and its impact on the Lake system Members: Joan Caldarella, Diane Rice, Kathy Victor
3a. Committees tabled until further discussion include: Water Level Monitoring - a question came up regarding regulating the Lake’s water level. At this point it is assumed no-one person is responsible for maintaining the water level at the outlet of the Lake. Flash boards are used to control the levels. In the past, there has been a lot of beaver dam activity that has created a problem with water level at the outlet but the Town stepped in removed the beavers which seemed to have remediated this issue. It was suggested that a committee be formed to report back to the Association on a monthly basis. Public Use and Access to Lake – This committee would be responsible for public access to the Lake. Sue Barnett (Conservation Commission and Parks Department) is looking into whether this is a possibility or not.
4. It was determined that the Lake Nipmuc Association and its committee members would meet on the first Thursday of each month at a location to be determined each month.
· Next month’s meeting will be held at Town Hall on Thursday, December 6th at 7pm.
· Meeting adjourned at 7:35pm.
