Shirley called Al Fales of the Mass Highway Department (MHD) and requested a progress report on the Route 16 runoff. He told Shirley that Ann Sullivan of the Worcester MHD would call her with a status up date. Ms. Sullivan stated that they planned to do the green dye test last month, but the consulting engineer in charge was out sick. She also indicated that MHD would be at the lake tomorrow to collect preliminary data. The green dye test will be rescheduled to include a water truck and crew. Upon testing results, the work would proceed. Shirley will pass along Ms. Sullivan’s contact information to Kathy who would like to be notified of any work that will be done on her property. Al Fales’ number is 774-535-1636. Ann Sullivan’s number is 508-929-3868 or e-mail at ann.sullivan@mhd.state.ma.us. Fred Lapham stated that MHD trucks were on Route 16 this morning. The Board was in agreement. · Lake Monitoring – Shirley S. Testing of e-coli in several locations around Lake Nipmuc will go forward. Someone suggested obtaining records from the Board of Health of any previous testing results might be helpful. Ileen M. will compile a list of locations to test for e-coli. Some suggestions were at the cove, the Marina, the town beach, the Myriad Ballroom, near Ted K’s house, and near Diane’s house. · Goose committee – nothing to report at this time. · Public Education committee – The Blackstone River Coalition has published “A Homeowners Guide to Protecting Water Quality within the Blackstone River Watershed”. The guide addresses several concerns including reducing use of fertilizer and pesticide on lawns; using low or no phosphorus dishwasher detergents; and maintaining vegetative buffers along the water’s edge. These tips can help reduce our impact on the lake by reducing the pollutants that runoff into the water. Shirley S. and Michelle W. are distributing brochures to river abutters in Mendon and surrounding towns. The next step is to compile a list of residents around the lake. · Website committee – nothing to report at this time. · Invasive Plant Life – Weed Watchers, an educational group formed by the DCR conducts workshops on monitoring invasive plant life and developing a removal plan if infestation is occurring. After the meeting, Shirley S. confirmed a workshop date of July 8th from 7 to 9pm at the Mendon Senior Center. The Board needs to get the word out to members and the general public regarding the workshop. · Public Access –Sue B was not able to attend the meeting but updated Michelle W. and said that the Eagle Scout project has been approved. Plans will be submitted to the Board prior to the project’s commencement. Meeting adjourned at 8:12pm
