Further research and testing are being conducted for depth and oxygen levels. An 1890 map of the Lake at the Highway Barn reveals that the deepest part of the Lake measured 27.5 feet then. A test in 1992 revealed that the deepest part measured 25 feet. Current testing indicates that the depth is now 22 feet. The Board would like to know if any of the members or someone they may know has any other historical data or documentation of the Lake. Laura T. noted that there is a fisherman that has written records of what he caught over the years. He believes the fish population is lower although said it could be a cycle. He will get us copies of this. Public Access According to Sue B. the original scout reports that he has folder with plans ready to submit for approval to BSA. As far as she knows, he hasn’t shown them to anyone else at this point. Michelle will get back to Sue to ask the scout to submit plans to the Board before work begins. Public Education The Blackstone River Watershed Association will be sponsoring a riverways cleanup day on October 25th from 9am to noon. Joan C. will be coordinating cleanup efforts at Lake Nipmuc on that same day. Anyone interested in volunteering their time should meet at the Yacht Club at 9am. For more information, visit www.lakenipmuc.com or e-mail info@thebrwa.org. Invasive Plant Life Shirley spoke to Jerry Smith at ACT about the water lily problem. Water lilies are not invasive plants. They provide shelter for aquatic life and should only be removed if they interfere with boating and swimming. “Rodeo” can be used with a low pressure sprayer. It is safe in water if used correctly. Purple loosestrife seeds are still in the ground so residents need to keep an eye on new growth for the next couple of years. Water testing Testing continues at the Lake and results will be composed after the September results come out. Information on this will be published in the November newsletter. Newsletter Newsletter articles are currently being drafted. The next issue will be published at some point in November. Next Meeting · Mendon Senior Center - Thursday, November 6th at 7pm.
